John 15:1-8
John 13 through 17 is called the Upper Room Discourse. This all happens on Thursday right before Jesus is crucified. At the start of Chapter 15, they are on their way to the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus knows what awaits them; the disciples don’t fully realize it. Jesus wants to prepare them for the future and as He’s walking, He notices some vines and the branches that stretch alongside the road and uses them to give an analogy that will be a key for their future.
